bubble_chart Content Cheng, female, 5 years old (ox zodiac), visited on March 6, 1978. The patient fell ill yesterday, presenting with aversion to cold with fever, without sweating, headache and body pain, stiffness and discomfort in the neck and back, accompanied by chest fullness and panting. Western antipyretic analgesics and Ephedrine were previously used without improvement. Examination revealed a thin yellow tongue coating, floating and rapid pulse, and a body temperature of 38.7°C. It was noted that the patient had not had a bowel movement for a day and a half. The condition was diagnosed as Taiyang (EX-HN5) cold-damage disease combined with yangming panting and fullness. Following Zhang Zhongjing's method, the treatment aimed to induce sweating to release the exterior, ventilate the lungs, and relieve panting. A modified Ephedra Decoction was prescribed:
Ephedra, Bitter Apricot Seed, each 9g; Cinnamon Twig, Magnolia Bark, Prepared Liquorice Root, each 6g
. After one dose, slight sweating occurred, and symptoms such as aversion to cold with fever, headache and body pain, and stiffness in the neck and back were alleviated. Panting and chest fullness were reduced, bowel movement resumed, and body temperature returned to normal. The treatment was then switched to Cinnamon Twig plus Magnolia Bark and Apricot Decoction to resolve the remaining pathogenic factors. After one dose, the patient fully recovered.
