Fibroadenoma of the breast is a common benign tumor of the breast, generally believed to be closely related to the active effects of estrogen, and is most prevalent during the period of high sexual function (18 to 25 years of age).
bubble_chart Clinical Manifestations
This disease commonly occurs in the outer quadrants of the breast, with approximately 75% being solitary and a few being multiple (simultaneously or non-simultaneously). Apart from the presence of a lump, patients usually have no obvious subjective symptoms. The lump grows slowly; upon palpation, it is firm, with clear boundaries, a smooth surface, and is highly mobile. The size of the lump is not affected by the menstrual cycle.
1. It is commonly seen in young women aged 20-25, mostly solitary, grows slowly, may have no subjective symptoms, and is often accidentally discovered as a spherical lump in the breast.
2. It grows slowly, the lump is spherical or oval in shape, with a smooth surface, firm texture, clear boundaries, and a slippery sensation upon palpation.
bubble_chart Treatment Measures
Although breast fibroadenoma is benign, it has the potential to become malignant. Therefore, once discovered, it should be surgically removed. The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia. After exposing the tumor, it should be excised en bloc along with its capsule. The excised mass must routinely undergo pathological examination to rule out the possibility of malignant transformation.
