This product is the rhizome of the perennial herbaceous plant Imperata cylindrica (Imperata cylindrica Beauv. var. major (Nees) C. E. Hubb.) from the Poaceae family. It is produced in most regions of the country. The rhizomes are harvested in spring and autumn, washed, and dried in the sun. After removing the fibrous roots and membranous leaf sheaths, they are cut into segments and used either raw or stir-fried to scorch.
