In the formula, Pinellia serves as the sovereign herb to counteract the rebellious stomach qi; a heavy dose of Gordon Euryale Seed is used to astringe the rushing qi and further consolidate kidney qi, thereby enhancing its ability to store and conceal; sesame and Platycladi Seed moisten the dryness of Pinellia and also assist Gordon Euryale Seed in tonifying the kidneys; Peony Root and Poria, one enriching yin to promote urination, the other mildly diuretic to facilitate urination; Dried Tangerine Peel assists Pinellia in descending rebellious qi and also helps to alleviate the cloying stagnation caused by Gordon Euryale Seed, sesame, and Platycladi Seed.
