  1. The collective term for taiyang, yangming, and shaoyang. It includes the three yang meridians of the hand and the three yang meridians of the foot, making a total of six meridians. In six-meridian pattern identification, the three yang diseases refer to pathogenic factors in the superficial layer of the body or diseases in the six fu-organs.
  2. The alternative name for the taiyang meridian (Suwen-Zhuzhijiao Lun Ma Shi's annotation). According to the progression of cold-damage disease from the exterior to the interior, among the three yang meridians, the taiyang meridian is located at the most superficial layer and is the first to be affected, hence it is called "three yang"; next is the yangming meridian, called "two yang"; and lastly, the shaoyang meridian, called "one yang".
  3. The alternative name for the foot taiyang bladder meridian (Suwen-Daqi Lun Ma Shi's annotation).
