  1. A general term for pathogenic qi. It is named so because pathogenic qi takes advantage of a deficiency to invade. For example, Suwen-Shanggu Tianzhen Lun states: "Deficiency-type pathogen and abnormal weather should be avoided at certain times."
  2. One of the "five pathogens." When a certain organ becomes diseased, pathogenic qi is transmitted through the "disorder of the mother-organ affecting the child-organ."
