"Restlessness" refers to the agitation of the hands and feet. "Mania" refers to a state of wild and restless behavior, acting recklessly and impulsively. Wild restlessness and agitated hands and feet are symptoms of a mental disorder. This is often caused by excessive heat in the liver meridian; or phlegm-fire disturbing the mind; excessive heat in the Yangming meridian, disturbing the heart and mind; or filthy turbidity affecting the upper body; blood stasis in the lower energizer, with stagnant heat surging upward, among other causes.
