If one indulges in eating raw and cold fruits, drinking ice or eating snow, or excessively consuming cold water, it is easy to injure the yang of the spleen and stomach, leading to the accumulation of cold in the middle, and the obstruction of the spleen and stomach's ascending and descending functions. This can result in cold pain in the stomach and abdomen, diarrhea, and other symptoms, which are especially common during the hot summer months, triggering cold-dampness syndromes in the summer.
In addition, consuming raw and unclean foods can easily cause various parasitic diseases. This has already been discussed in Jingui Yaolue. For example, it is said: "Eating spoiled rice, rotten meat, and stinky fish can all harm people"; "Eating cooked food and drinking milk can cause worms to grow in the abdomen, leading to emaciation"; "Fruits that have fallen to the ground and been eaten by insects overnight should not be eaten by people," and so on. ("Prohibitions and Treatments for Birds, Beasts, Fish, and Insects"). Therefore, the chapter "Prohibitions for Birds, Beasts, Fish, and Insects" in "Yizong Jinjian" states: "Do not eat raw vegetables in all four seasons, as they can cause indigestion and lead to various illnesses... One should be deeply cautious of this."
