Skin warts refer to small growths on the surface of the skin, which can occur on various parts of the body, ranging in size from millet grains to soybeans. They may have a smooth or rough surface, resembling a pinhead or flower stamen, and appear in normal skin color or yellowish-white.

This condition, anciently known as "mouse nipple (molluscum contagiosum)" or "wart eye (verruca vulgaris); commonly referred to as "warts" or "flat wart," is one of the common skin diseases among young people.

1. Blood deficiency wind-dryness warts: The skin lesions are millet or soybean-sized, round or irregular growths, normal skin color, hard texture, with a rough and prickly surface, commonly found on the back of hands and feet, palms and soles, or the head and face, usually without subjective symptoms, but larger ones may cause pain.
2. Wind-evil with heat warts: The skin lesions are pinhead or mung bean-sized flat and tough papules, normal skin color or light brown, with a smooth surface, commonly found on the cheeks and back of the hands, with a slight itching sensation.
3. Wind pathogenic heat toxin warts: The skin lesions are mung bean or pea-sized hemispherical raised papules, with a central umbilication, glossy surface, resembling "mouse nipple (molluscum contagiosum)," appearing scattered or in clusters, from which a white cheese-like substance can be squeezed out when punctured.
4. Qi and blood coagulation warts: The skin lesions are soybean to broad bean-sized solid patches, with a central white-yellow hard nodule, causing significant pain upon pressure, commonly found on the soles of feet or palms.

1. Wind-evil with heat warts and wind pathogenic heat toxin warts: Both are caused by external contraction of wind-heat, but the characteristics of wind-evil with heat warts are: slightly raised, flat, smooth, and firm papules, commonly found on the face and back of the hands; whereas wind pathogenic heat toxin warts are characterized by: hemispherical raised firm papules, with a glossy surface and central umbilication, which can occur anywhere on the body. Both should be treated by clearing heat toxin. The prescription used is the Wart Removal Formula No. 3; external treatments differ, with wind-evil with heat warts treated by washing with the Wart Wash Formula, while wind pathogenic heat toxin warts should be treated by disinfecting the skin, then puncturing the wart with a Sparganium Rhizome needle to squeeze out the white body, followed by applying Realgar Removing Toxin Powder externally.
2. Blood deficiency wind-dryness warts and qi-blood coagulation warts: both diseases are in the blood aspect. However, the former is caused by liver deficiency and blood dryness, leading to the lack of nourishment of tendons and qi, while the latter is caused by exposure to wind-cold after the feet are heated and soaked in water, leading to the coagulation of qi and blood. One is due to blood dryness, the other to blood coagulation. Blood deficiency wind-dryness warts appear as round or irregular growths, hard in texture, with a rough and thorny surface, resembling flower stamens; qi-blood coagulation warts are firm growths the size of soybeans or broad beans, commonly occurring on the soles of the feet and palms. For treatment, the former should be treated by nourishing kidney water and liver blood, moistening dryness and dispelling wind, using modified Gui Shao Rehmannia Decoction, and can also be treated by applying crushed Java brucea fruit externally, changing every three to five days, or by heating black plaster sticks and dripping the hot liquid onto the warts, changing every three to five days; qi-blood coagulation warts should be treated by activating blood and softening hardness, using Qu You No. 4 Formula, with external treatment the same as before.

Zhubing Yuanhou Lun．Volume 31: "Wart eye (verruca vulgaris) is when suddenly, on the hands or feet of a person, something like a bean or a knotted tendon appears, either five or ten of them connected within the muscle, rough and stronger than the flesh, called wart eye (verruca vulgaris). This is also due to wind evil contending with the muscles and transforming into this condition."
2. Waike Zhengzong．Volume 4: "Wart eye (verruca vulgaris) is caused by melancholy injuring the liver, the liver lacking nourishment, leading to the outward manifestation of tendon qi."
