There are male and female varieties of chinaberry. The male variety is seedless, has red roots that are poisonous, and can cause uncontrollable vomiting when ingested, sometimes leading to death. The female variety bears seeds, and its roots (blackend swallowwort root) are toxic but can be used medicinally.
