Lingshu-Jingjin: The sinew of the foot yangming starts from the middle three toes (1), connects at the instep, deviates outward to the fibula and radius, ascends to connect at the lateral side of the knee, goes straight up to connect at the hip joint, ascends along the ribs, and connects to the spine. The straight portion ascends along the shin, connects at the knee; the branch connects at the outer fibula and radius, merging with shaoyang. The straight portion ascends along Futu (ST32), connects at the thigh, gathers at the genital region, ascends to the abdomen and spreads, reaching Quepen (ST12) and connecting, ascends to the neck, goes along the side of the mouth, merges at (page nine), connects below the nose, and merges with taiyang. Taiyang is the meridian/meridian sinew mesh above the eyes (2), yangming is the meridian/meridian sinew mesh below the eyes (3). Another branch, from the cheek, connects in front of the ear.

Its diseases: discomfort in the middle toe, cramping of the shin, stiffness in the foot (4), cramping of Futu (ST32), swelling in front of the thigh, hernia (5), tightness of the abdominal muscles, pulling Quepen (ST12) and the cheek, sudden deviation of the mouth (6), in acute cases the eyes cannot close, heat causes the sinews to relax and the eyes cannot open. Cold in the cheek sinews causes tightness, pulling the cheek and moving the mouth; heat causes the sinews to relax and slacken, unable to contract, hence the deviation.

bubble_chart Notes

(1) Middle three toes—namely, the second, middle, and fourth toes.

(2) (3) Mesh—originally written as "net," this is changed according to Jia Yi, Taisu.

(4) Stiffness in the foot—feeling stiff and uncomfortable during foot movement.

(5) Hernia—also written as "collapse." Named because the hernia descends and collapses. See the section on foot jueyin.

(6) Deviation of the mouth—refers to the corner of the mouth being askew.

bubble_chart Translation

The sinew of the foot yangming meridian starts from the second, middle, and fourth toes, connects at the instep, deviates outward to the fibula, ascends to connect at the lateral side of the knee, goes straight up to connect at the hip joint, ascends along the ribs, and connects to the spine; the straight portion ascends along the shin, connects at the knee, the branch connects at the outer fibula and radius, merging with the foot shaoyang meridian sinew; the straight portion ascends along Futu (ST32), connects at the thigh and gathers at the genital region. It then ascends to spread across the abdomen, reaching Quepen (ST12) and connecting; it ascends further to the neck, goes along the side of the mouth, merges at the cheek beside the nose, connects below the nose, and merges with the foot taiyang meridian sinew. The taiyang meridian sinew is the "meridian/meridian sinew mesh above the eyes" (upper eyelid), yangming meridian sinew is the "meridian/meridian sinew mesh below the eyes" (lower eyelid). Another branch, from the cheek, connects in front of the ear.

Its diseases: discomfort in the middle toe and shin, cramping pain, stiffness in the foot, cramping pain in the front of the thigh, swelling in the front of the thigh, hernia, tightness of the abdominal muscles, pulling Quepen (ST12) and the cheek, sudden deviation of the mouth, in cases of cold the eyelid cannot close; in cases of pathogenic heat the sinews relax and the eyelid cannot open. Cold in the cheek sinews causes tightness, pulling the cheek and moving the mouth; heat causes the sinews to relax and slacken, unable to contract, hence the deviation.
