When the two yang diseases coexist, and the taiyang disease is initially treated by inducing sweating, if the sweating is not thorough, it may transform into a yangming disease, with continuous slight sweating and no aversion to cold. If the taiyang pattern does not subside, purgation should not be used, as it would be contrary to the proper treatment. In such cases, slight sweating can be induced. If the face appears uniformly red, it indicates yang qi stagnation on the surface, which should be resolved and dispersed. If the sweating is not thorough, it is insufficient to say that yang qi stagnation cannot be relieved. If sweating should occur but does not, the person will experience restlessness and an inability to pinpoint the pain, which may shift between the abdomen and the limbs, and cannot be located by palpation. The person will also experience shortness of breath and will only be able to sit, as the sweating is not thorough. Further inducing sweating will cure the condition. How can one know that the sweating is not thorough? The pulse will be rough, indicating this condition.
