In Shaoyin disease, when food is ingested, it is vomited, and there is a warm sensation in the chest with a desire to vomit but an inability to do so. At the onset, the hands and feet are cold, and the pulse is wiry and slow. This indicates a substantial condition in the chest, and purgation should not be used. If there is cold fluid retention above the diaphragm causing retching, vomiting should not be induced; instead, warming therapy should be applied.
