﹝Explanation of Name﹞

The edge of the palm connecting the metacarpal bones of the thumb and index finger is called purlicue, and the point is located there, hence the name purlicue.

Beiji Qianjin Yaofang.

﹝Location﹞

Located on the dorsum of the hand, between the thumb and index finger web. When the hand is clenched, it is found at the midpoint of the line connecting the high points of the heads of the first and second metacarpal bones. There are 2 points in total, one on each side.

﹝Local Anatomy﹞

In the area of the interosseous muscles; contains the dorsal venous network of the hand, dorsal metacarpal arteries; innervated by the dorsal branch of the radial nerve.

﹝Acupuncture and Moxibustion﹞

Insert needle 4-6 fen. Sensations of distension and numbness may radiate to the fingertips. Moxibustion with 5 cones.

﹝Indications﹞

heart pain, shoulder pain, vertigo, insomnia, night sweating, headache, irritability, tight lips, toothache, tonsillitis.

﹝Prescription Examples﹞

  • Tonsillitis: purlicue, Shaoshang (LU11), Dazhui (GV14), Quchi (LI11), Chize (LU5).
  • Insomnia: purlicue, Neiguan (PC6), Shenmen (HT7), Taichong (LR3).
  • Toothache: Xiaguan (ST7), Jiache (ST6), purlicue.
