The so-called pulsation is the fundamental manifestation of the pulse, not like the tense pulse which appears due to illness. Bian Que said: "The pulse of Shaoyang pulsates six parts, flourishing in January and February. The pulse of Taiyang pulsates nine parts, flourishing in March and April. The pulse of Yangming pulsates three parts, reaching its peak in May and June. The pulse of Shaoyin pulsates six parts, flourishing in July and August. The pulse of Taiyin pulsates nine parts, flourishing in September and October. The pulse of Jueyin pulsates three parts, flourishing in November and December." This pulsation is rooted in nature. The pulsation of the normal pulse is common and necessary for everyone; it is only through pulsation that the abundance of qi can be observed. One must carefully examine it at the moment when the pulse first returns under the finger, and it will naturally become apparent. In the West, there is a pulse examination device; when the pulse rises and is about to fall but has not yet fallen, during the moment of rotation, there must be traces of vibration. This is due to the strong exhaling force of qi, which clashes with the inhaling force, creating a dynamic tension. As for the tense pulse, when heat is constrained by cold, the pulsation occurs at the very beginning of the pulse's rise. It is the struggle between heat and cold that causes the pulse to stand firm, making the pulsation more pronounced. Hence, people mistakenly attribute pulsation solely to the tense pulse. Moreover, there are cases where damp-heat and excessive phlegm cause qi depression and shaking, indicating that the qi is not flowing smoothly. There are also cases where kidney heat boils internally, causing panting and shaking, indicating that the qi is not calm. There are cases where the life fire is leaking, causing timidity and shaking, indicating that the qi has no root, like a person who is weak and tries to lift something heavy.
