Method

The term "Bao" has two meanings: "report" and "repetition." First, based on the painful area reported by the patient, perform a perpendicular insertion. After applying the manipulation technique, use the left hand to press along the upper and lower areas to find another tender point. Withdraw the needle and reinsert it, repeating this process to stimulate the ashi point, aiming to achieve a needle sensation. If the sensation is not achieved, the needle can be repeatedly inserted multiple times, hence the name "Bao Ci" (repetition needling). This method is similar to the current intermittent needling manipulation, but Bao Ci involves withdrawing the needle and reinserting it, whereas the latter involves repeated needling while retaining the needle.

Clinical Application

Bao Ci is widely used for conditions with tender points or without fixed pain locations, such as migratory pain, scapulohumeral periarthritis, arthritis, epigastralgia, toothache, etc. It can also be used to manage needle stagnation.
