[Overview]
The Zhenjing Zhinan states: "The rotating method involves gently rotating the needle in the abdominal area within the acupoint." The Zhenjiu Wendui provides a more detailed description: "The rotating method is applied to soft areas of the abdomen, using only the rotating technique combined with the principles of lifting and thrusting. The rotation should be performed in a circular motion, with each rotation consisting of five turns. Rotating the needle clockwise while pressing is considered a reinforcing technique, while rotating counterclockwise while lifting is considered a reducing technique. Therefore, it is said that rotation harmonizes the qi..." The rotating needle technique is specifically designed for areas with abundant muscle, such as the abdomen, as a method to harmonize qi and regulate tonification and reduction.
[Operational Method]
First, insert the needle deeply into the acupoint. After obtaining qi, lift the needle to a shallow depth, then tilt the needle so that the shaft is inclined at an angle of 15° to 45°. Rotate the needle in a circular motion, with the rotation angle ranging from 180° to 360°. The rotation can be combined with tonification or reduction techniques. Generally, rotating clockwise while pressing is considered tonification, while rotating counterclockwise while lifting is considered reduction.

[Clinical Application]
1. This method can lower qi and harmonize it, thereby enhancing the needling sensation and improving therapeutic efficacy.
2. When combined with tonification and reduction techniques, it is mainly used to treat abdominal cold, pathogenic heat, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, fullness, and indigestion.
[Precautions]1. This method is primarily used in areas with thick abdominal muscles.
2. It should be performed only after obtaining qi.
3. The technique should not be performed too quickly or forcefully, as it may cause bending of the needle, needle stagnation, or pain.
