Almost all programming languages provide loop syntax to repeatedly execute the same set of instructions. Loops usually terminate under given conditions and then proceed to subsequent instructions. However, in some unexpected situations, the given conditions are never met, and the loop cannot terminate, forming an undesired infinite loop—the same set of instructions is repeatedly executed until all system resources are exhausted or it is forcibly stopped.

A similar phenomenon exists in the human brain. Generally, learning forms new neural connections among countless neurons in the brain, constituting learning experiences. Frequent practice can make these circuits more stable, and the signals during activity more pronounced. If not experienced for a long time, the circuits gradually weaken and even disappear. Experience circuits are activated at appropriate times and terminated under certain conditions.

However, the experiential patterns that humans rely on for learning can become fatal flaws. Once one indulges in a certain experience, becomes addicted, and cannot extricate themselves, an infinite loop of that experience forms. In this loop, brain neurons adhere to one another through axons, forming a deadly circular circuit. Neural impulses travel along this circuit, with positive feedback and re-feedback, excitation and re-excitation. Once started, it is difficult to stop until energy is exhausted and one is completely drained. Those addicted to drugs, online games, various sensory stimuli, workaholism, bad habits, etc., must have such infinite loops in their brains.

Human society also has similar loops: to satisfy various desires, various products are developed; to create another product, another product is researched. One thing connects to another, endlessly linked and produced, consuming vast resources of the living environment, generating massive pollution, and poisoning ourselves. But upon careful analysis, it is unclear which of the produced items are truly essential for life, indispensable, or bring happiness upon possession. The entire society exists, learns, and stays busy for the sake of production. Perhaps because the infinite loops constructed in society are too dense and complex, people cannot clearly see that their lives do not need to join such loops and can live better and more freely. Whether it is in individuals or society, such infinite loops are not unbreakable, but it requires thorough awakening, resolute determination, and extraordinary courage.

There is another kind of loop, on a larger scale, involving the continuous cycle of birth and death, which we can discuss another time.
