Madam L and Master Z lived a life of great wealth, but after many years of marriage, they had no children. They drew many lots at the temple, all saying they would have no offspring in this life, except for one lot from a Guanyin temple that said they must generously help the poor and destitute to have a chance.

So, they earnestly helped many impoverished families in the county, even building dozens of houses for homeless wanderers and beggars. After half a year of such generous help, Madam L actually became pregnant. She gave birth to 'her' after a full term, and although 'she' was not a boy, the couple doted on this only daughter, treating 'her' as their pearl, caring for 'her' in every possible way, even a bit too much.

'She' had a personal maid, Little C, who was in charge of 'her' daily life since 'she' was young. Little C came from a poor family, and her parents couldn't afford to raise her, so they sold her to the Z household as a servant. Little C was seven or eight years older than 'she', and had been with 'her' since 'she' was young, taking care of 'her' daily life, like 'her' best friend. 'She' treated Little C almost like a sister, often sharing good things with her.

Master Z's business was very successful, and he knew many influential figures in the business and official circles, who naturally had unmarried sons. When 'she' reached marriageable age, many came to propose, but those vulgar young masters couldn't catch 'her' eye.

'She' dragged on like this, past the marriageable age, still single. 'She' didn't mind, spending her days reading novels, playing the zither, dabbling in calligraphy and painting, making desserts, brewing and tasting tea, and growing flowers for amusement, living a comfortable and happy life. Her parents, who doted on this only precious daughter, let 'her' continue like this.

In fact, 'she' often hoped that one day 'her' ideal partner would come to 'her' side, and then 'she' would open 'her' arms and love wholeheartedly.
