"Zhe" (輒), the side panels of a carriage, symbolizing "both sides". "jin" (筋), sinew. The acupoint is located between bones and muscles on both sides of ribcage, hence the name.

On the lateral side of the chest, 1 cun anterior to Yuanye (GB22), approximately level with the nipple, at the midpoint of the line connecting Yuanye (GB22) and Tianxi (SP18).

  • Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing: "3 cun below armpit, then 1 cun forward, adjacent to ribs".
  • Zhenjiu Dacheng adds: "At the end of third rib, 7.5 cun lateral to sternum, level with nipples. Locate by lying on the side with upper leg bent".

  • Muscles: outer edge of pectoralis major, serratus anterior, internal and external intercostal muscles.
  • Nerve: lateral cutaneous branch of fifth intercostal nerve.
  • Vessels: lateral thoracic artery and vein.

Insert the needle subcutaneously along the intercostal space 0.3~0.5 cun. Moxibustion with moxa cone 3 to 5 times, moxibustion with moxa stick for 10 to 15 minutes.

  • Classical: sudden fullness in chest with insomnia, wheezing, frequent sighing and tendency to sadness, heat in lower abdomen, excessive saliva, vomiting of stagnant fluids, regurgitation, scrofula.
